Dolphin No. 3

I had pictured this image in my mind for several years: an almost colorless, overcast morning with calm water and a dolphin in midair. I kept trying and trying, but things never worked out the right way. Either it wasn’t overcast, the water was too rough, or I got a shot too late when the dolphin was already underwater again. But in Olhão last year, it finally all came together. 

After a sunny start in the marina, once we got out to sea, the clouds thickened and a light fog added a bit of haze in the air. Everything felt calm and serene, the conditions were perfect, but it was a fairly short trip compared to the ones I’m used to in Lisbon. We saw some dolphins, and I kept photographing but didn’t get many shots that I thought would be good. Then, just as we were about to turn around and go back to shore, I spotted two dolphins in the distance, pressed the shutter, kept shooting, and hoped for the best. I didn’t know if I actually got anything until I got back to the Airbnb and started going through the photos from that day. I could not believe it when I saw this image. I got up and jumped around and kept saying Yes! Yes! Yes! out loud to myself. 😄 I finally got it!

This print only come in larger sizes because you need to see it large to really appreciate it.

PRINT DETAILS
The image is printed on matte archival cotton rag fine art paper with a 0.5” - 2” white border (depending on image size) and is signed on the border below the image. Print sizes refer to the total paper size, including the border (e.g. a 10x15-inch print has a 9x14-inch image with 0.5-inch borders). The prints are available unframed or framed, and every order is professionally custom printed.

FRAMED ART - USA & AUSTRALIA ONLY
Framed prints come in a black, white, or natural wood frame with or without a white cotton rag mat. The frames are handmade in the US from top-quality hardwoods and all archival materials. They are custom made to order, with beautiful spline joints and 99% UV-filtering acrylic glass. Depending on print size, the frames have a 1/2" - 1" face and 1 1/2" - 2 1/4" depth. Smaller frames are fitted with D-rings and a wire for hanging; large frames (24x36 inches and up) have a French cleat hanging system.

Framed prints are currently only available in the US and Australia. All Australian orders are printed, framed, and shipped from my lab in Adelaide. The frames at my lab in Australia are also made locally by hand from top quality materials, but some of the details are a bit different from the US frames - please contact me for more information. *Note that the largest print size available in Australia is 40x60 inches (100x150 cm).

FRAMED ART SIZES
The sizes listed are print sizes; mats and frames will add to the final size. For example, the outside dimensions of a 20x30 inch matted and framed print is 27x37 inches. Please see the framed art size image here (this is a 2:3 ratio print), or the FAQs for all final framed dimensions.

SHIPPING INFORMATION
Shipping is free in the contiguous United States. Unframed prints are rolled in a plastic sleeve, placed inside a sturdy shipping tube, and normally delivered within 10 business days of your order. Framed prints are carefully wrapped and boxed and shipped via FedEx or UPS. Large and oversized framed prints are crated and shipped via freight. Framed prints typically have a turnaround time of 3-4 weeks.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS
Unframed prints are available in the contiguous US, Canada, Australia, EU, and UK, and are produced and shipped by my local partner lab in each country. Framed prints are currently only available in the contiguous United States and Australia.
